Parent Letter regarding school safety

12/17/2012

Dear Parents:

We mourn the tragic events that happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, and will keep the whole community in our  prayers.  Please know that we take  the safety of our students very seriously.  We have procedures we follow every day  to make sure we know who is on our campus at all times and to minimize any  threats to our school community.

We wanted to share with you that we have taken  the opportunity to review all of our safety procedures and are working closely  with Gilbert Police Department to ensure we have the best possible protocols in
place.

The extensive media coverage of this tragedy may have created  some fear and anxiety in both parents and students as students returned to school today.  Please be assured  that we at Gilbert Arts Academy work hard to keep our students safe and will  continue to do so.  Our on-site  school counselor is here to help and is ready to talk to students who are  feeling fearful or to parents who have concerns on how to address Friday’s  events with their students.

The staff at Gilbert Arts Academy is committed to  the well-being and safety of all our students.  If you have any questions or concerns,  please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Cathie Hirsch
